Abstract: This paper consists of a scientometric analysis of the Brazilian literature on institutionalized political participation, studying articles published between 2002 and 2020, indexed in the SciELO database. The aim is to identify how the topic is studied in Brazil. To this end, a content analysis was carried out on 116 articles. Nine variables were used to identify how institutionalized participation is studied: year of publication, research object, method used, data collection and analysis techniques used, use and type of statistics, ways of dealing with subjectivity, measuring validity and methodological transparency. The results indicate an empirical literature characterized by the study of public policy councils, primarily using qualitative methodologies, especially the use of the interview technique for data collection and content analysis for data analysis. The general picture that emerges is of a diverse field of research in terms of methods and techniques, but with low complexity when statistical analyses are used and little methodological transparency in the case of qualitative research.
