The Democracy and Collective Action Research Group brings together researchers dedicated to the study of both societal actors and the political mediation roles they perform, as well as the interactions between these actors and state actors in public policies and politics. More specifically, the following thematic areas of research can be identified: new forms of political representation, participatory institutions, social control and accountability, institutionalization, and social movements. Despite this thematic diversity, the work is connected by a shared underlying assumption: the effects of the mutual constitution of interactions between “civil society” and the “State.”
