News and Events

The series “Stories of Activism” premiered this September, bringing together testimonies from women activists from Rio Grande do Sul about their life journeys, experiences in activism, and political engagement.

The first season is dedicated to feminist and women’s activism, exploring different forms of action. Episodes will be released every Friday until the end of the year.

The series opened with Céli Pinto, historian and retired professor from the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences (IFCH/UFRGS), who shares reflections on her path as a feminist intellectual and activist, both within and beyond the university.

In the second episode, activist Ìyá Sandrali Bueno reflects on the ancestry of Black feminism and shares how she has worked to advance causes such as the defense of children’s and adolescents’ rights and the fight against discrimination toward Afro-Brazilian religions.

The most recent episode features journalist, writer, and politician Manuela d’Ávila, who discusses the impact of her experiences with gender-based political violence and motherhood on her path of activism, the consequences of the rise of the far right, and the importance of intergenerational dialogue within feminism.

The project is carried out by the Research Group on Associativism, Contestation, and Engagement (GPACE), affiliated with IFCH/UFRGS, with support from INCT Participa – Transformations of Participation, Associativism, and Political Confrontation. The recordings were made at NAPEAD – Multimedia Production for Education, located on UFRGS’s Vale Campus.

This September, INCT Participa also launched its own storytelling project, “Memories of Participation,” featuring accounts from researchers who are key references in the field of social movements and participation in Brazil. The series debuted with the story of Maria da Glória Gohn and will be published monthly.
